Nanine Linning and Bart Hess continue their successful collaboration in developing new hybrid installations or physical sculptures as proposals for evolution of our species. They create around the philosophical questions which are getting louder and louder as scientist push the envelop of the possibilities for self optimization and blending artificial life with our organic heritage in search for eternal life.

Shortly before his death, Orlando di Lasso created a crowning work of sacred Renaissance vocal polyphony: Lagrime di San Pietro. This series of 20 madrigals and a motet for seven voices, which the composer wrote ‚for my personal devotion in my burdensome old age’, will be performed in a staged version for Hamburg Ballet principal dancer Alexandre Riabko and choir.
Implanted chips to improve performance, chimeras, designer babies, a stop to the aging process - technologically it all seems increasingly feasible, which raises a variety of ethical issues. The exhibition and performance project Double Helix / Zukunftslabor Offenburg is dedicated to the effects of biotechnological developments in our society and within our bodies. The exploration at the interface between man and machine, technology and philosophy, this project not only combines visual art, video and live performance. Interactive elements for the audience turn each of the approximately one-hour guided tours into an individual Gesamtkunstwerk.
In my practise as artist I am not looking for the representation or the illustration; instead I focus on physical ideas and ask my dancers to physicalize emotions rather then acting them, moving away from the Pulcinella ballet story in it’s original libretto.
As a multidisciplinary artist, working as choreographer and opera director, I am deeply interested in bringing my passion for dance and opera together; working with the body and the voice originates in the fundamentals of human existence—the breath.
After the Spanish painter’s death, fourteen murals were found, painted on the walls of his house outside of Madrid where Francisco Goya spend his last years of his life. They portray intense, haunting themes, reflective of both his fear of insanity and his bleak outlook on humanity.
To become immortal - an undertaking that is almost as old as mankind itself. The search for the one elixir that makes us invulnerable, gives us eternal youth and through which we can escape our earthly limitations runs right through history. From the Alchemist's Magnum opus, it took us to today's nanotechnological innovations that try to outsource the human brain to computers. We have come closer to our goal of eternal life at breakneck speed in recent years; how far is it still to the Philosopher's Stone?

This series of 20 madrigals and a motet for seven voices, which the composer wrote ‚for my personal devotion in my burdensome old age’, will be performed in a staged version for star dancer Marijn Rademaker and choir.

He painted the abysses of the human soul: the British artist Francis Bacon. Basic mechanisms of relationships such as desire, domination and exclusion he presented with merciless honesty and painful beauty.

ZERO is an exciting cross-over, in which dance, drama, film, music and costumes - by the internationally celebrated designer Iris van Herpen - leave your eyes almost popping out of your head. What will happen if the world were to drastically change; if gravity were to slowly disappear? What do people do in those final hours before everything changes? Do we accept it? Do we say goodbye to one another? Do we fight it?

Director Monique Wagemakers, choreographer Nanine Linning and artist Lonneke Gordijn (Studio DRIFT), developed the concept for this opera as a contemporary Gesamtkunstwerk that fully integrates stage direction, choreography and design. Fashion designer Marlou Breuls was brought in to create the costumes. Right from the start, Wagemakers’ intention was to find a new way to make opera. This is why she deliberately sought collaborations with independent artists.

Hieronymus B. celebrates the oeuvre of the famous Dutch painter Hieronymus Bosch in a total work of art combining contemporary dance, video art, opulent costume and stage design with the merging composition of historic and contemporary music.

Nanine Linning, who uses the combination of dance, concert and installation to create visually stunning, poetic dance productions, is inspired by Hans Abrahamsen's chamber piece ‘Schnee’ for her choreography DUO - For 16 dancers and 9 musicians, under the direction of conductor Gregor A. Mayrhofer.

In co-production with the German National Theater in Weiman, the Stuttgart Ballet has commissioned Nanine Linning, Edward Clug and Katarzyna Kozielska to create three new works in relation to the Bauhaus 100 year celebrations and the first democratic constitution of Germany, The Weimar Verfassung.

Linning's acclaimed production BACON celebrates its comeback on stage thirteen years after its first release in 2005. BACON, which received the “Swan” for the best Dutch dance production, returns in 2018 with revised choreography and new video- and light design. Rehearsals started in the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart where the company got invited to dance in front of the huge triptychs during the Francis Bacon retrospective December 2016.

On the threshold of the end and a new beginning there’s a sphere of dusk, where time seems to extend endlessly and inescapably passes at the same time. From this transcendent state between holding on and accepting to let go springs the inspiration of Nanine Linning’s newest and maybe most personal piece.

For Bacon, Nanine drew inspiration from Francis Bacon, the great twentieth-century figurative painter. Bacon is an associative journey, made up of emotions that evoke Bacon’s paintings. In Bacon, Linning freely translates the contrast between humiliation and beauty into a physical triptych reminiscent of Bacon’s famous triptychs. The dancers push and manipulate, hang upside down like carcasses and act as hunters pursuing their prey in imposed balances of power.
Nothing has changed as radically in the last few decades as the technology we surround ourselves with on a daily basis. Modern means of communication let the world shrink to a pocket size Global Village. Medical technology promises life beyond its natural limits. Robotics, cybernetics and developments in the field of artificial intelligence put the equally fascinating as disquieting idea of artificial life within our grasp.

Departing from Plato’s idea of “Khôra“, which points to the space between non-being and being, Nanine Linning explores in her dance piece the essence of the body, its primordial and intuitive dimensions. Five elements and five senses play together in establishing an incessant dynamic of change. You see moving bodies transforming into emotional music, more and more replaced by video projections, finishing in irritating smells or unknown tastes.

Nanine Linning choreographed the piece The Black Painting, a part of the program Infinity. In the eighth season of the Dance Company Theaterhaus Stuttgart, Eric Gauthier presents his first mixed bill featuring as many as eight pieces, including four world premières. The title also alludes to the eight – inspired by the horizontal eight, the symbol of infinity. Infinity stands for the countless variations of dance itself taking the audience to the depths of the dance universe. Similar to Future 6, the line-up once again boasts some famous names from all generations of choreographers. As a result, the works vary strongly, in terms of style as well as in terms of their casts.

Philip Glass's opera ECHNATON (Akhnaten), directed by Nanine Linning, comes back for it's second season, starting on the 21st of September and can be seen until the 15th of March 2015.

Endless, a highly emotional journey in which  Nanine guides her audience through a relationship of two people who struggle to find trust, confidence and love in one another. This epic production started as a duet in 2006 before she reworked it into an evening length production danced by 10 dancers.

The world cries. The resurrected problems are no longer being redirected on some one else, far away in space and time. The human mankind strengles himself and takes it's own breath for the future away. Our inner voices are being overruled by de voices of commerce, media and politics. The effect is auto intoxication of the society, everywhere you look around.

In REQUIEM Nanine Linning imagines the tension between life and death, the profane and the sacred, the carnal and the spiritual. Themes, which are inextricably linked together and are at the same time absolute opposites. Inspired by Fauré's “Requiem”, Dante's “La Divina Commedia” and the absurd and surreal images of the artist duo “Les Deux Garçons”, Linning is searching for her own paradise on earth.
With Puccini's MADAME BUTTERFLY, Linning staged her first opera, how- ever not a typical classical production. She searched with the lead sin- gers and her dancers for new possibilities of expression that goes beyond an 'opera with dance'. Rather she aimed to blend together both disciplines into a new form, a "Dance Opera".
Endless Song of Silence, a breathtaking and emotional moving evening length duet in which she dances herself with her outstanding partner Danilo Colonna, premiered January 2010 in Amsterdam.
In Synthetic Twin, Linning focuses on Siamese twins as a metaphor for being together one. The extreme desire to break away from somebody and at the same time the intense desire to melt together with someone– is a recurring dilemma in our lives. Linning is fascinated by Siamese twins who are actually two people in one body. But are you one if you have two heads and two hearts thinking and feeling at the same time?
Dolby literally means "noise reduction". The play toys with the feeling one sometimes has, when standing still in the middle of a moving crowd. The eye searches for a fixed point, but continuous movement surrounds you.
Cry Love is about the person whose body is driven by instinct, moods and emotions.
Cry Love is about the person who has love. And dies once again.
A dynamic, concentrated spectacle is created in which the survival mechanisms and human interactions are portrayed.
